The United Arab Emirates has marked a year of extraordinary achievement in its space sector during 2025, solidifying its role as a global hub for advanced technology and scientific exploration. This progress, announced during the United Nations’ World Space Week from October 4-10, underscores the nation’s long-term commitment to developing local talent, expanding international partnerships, and contributing to humanity’s reach into the cosmos.

The year began ambitiously with the launch of six satellites in the first quarter alone. A pivotal moment came in February when the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) signed a significant agreement with Thales Alenia Space. The deal tasks the UAE with developing and operating a pressure equalization module for a NASA lunar station, a role it will hold for 15 years. This 10-ton module guarantees the UAE a permanent scientific presence in the world’s largest lunar exploration program, including a potential future Moon landing for an Emirati astronaut and priority access to cutting-edge engineering data.

The momentum continued with the UAE Space Agency completing the final design phase for the Emirates Mission to the Asteroid Belt (EMA) in April. This will be the Arab world’s first scientific mission to explore seven asteroids between Mars and Jupiter. Furthermore, the MBRSC strengthened its lunar ambitions through partnerships with Firefly Aerospace for the Blue Ghost 2 mission and an updated collaboration with France’s CNES agency. These agreements pave the way for the Rashid 2 rover to land on the far side of the Moon in 2026, positioning the UAE among a select group of nations to achieve this feat.

Collectively, these milestones are attracting international investments, tech startups, and leading companies to the UAE, transforming the nation into a recognized center for innovation and scientific achievement.
