His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has unveiled ambitious plans for the Dubai Museum of Art (DUMA). Conceived as a new cultural symbol for the emirate, the groundbreaking project will be a floating structure situated in the waters of Dubai Creek.

The architectural concept for the museum has been entrusted to the world-renowned Japanese architect Tadao Ando. His design is promised to be a harmonious blend of modern architectural principles and elements inspired by traditional Emirati culture. The construction of the landmark will be carried out by the company Al Futtaim.

In his announcement, Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the profound role of culture, stating, “Culture and art are the soul of a city, a reflection of its progress and humanistic vision. The new museum will be a beacon of creativity and will strengthen Dubai’s status as a global cultural centre.”

The five-level structure will rise above the water, housing expansive exhibition halls, spaces for educational programs, and venues for art fairs and events. The design also includes dedicated areas for artist meetings, panel discussions, and cultural forums. A key feature will be a central space flooded with natural light, creating a sense of movement and openness for visitors.

Envisioned by its creators as an international platform, DUMA aims to become a new global hub, bringing together established and emerging artists while attracting art lovers from around the world to its unique waterfront setting.
