The Al Ain Museum, recognized as the first museum in the United Arab Emirates, has officially reopened its doors to the public after undergoing an extensive renovation. Originally founded in 1969 by the nation’s founding father and first President, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the museum stands as a cornerstone of the UAE’s cultural heritage.

The museum, which covers an area of approximately 8,000 square meters, has carefully preserved its historical structure and original artifacts while integrating modern exhibition elements to enhance the visitor experience. The renovation process itself led to significant archaeological discoveries, unearthing new artifacts that include an ancient irrigation system and the foundations of early structures. These finds have further enriched a collection that already chronicles over 8,000 years of regional history, offering deep insights into the lives of the area’s earliest inhabitants.

The museum complex also includes the historic Sultan Fort, also known as the Eastern Fort, constructed in 1910. The newly updated facility is now equipped with 10 exhibition halls, a café, retail shops, and a dedicated research center. According to the museum’s director, Omar Salem Al Kaabi, the revitalized Al Ain Museum will play a crucial role in helping visitors understand the region’s profound cultural and archaeological legacy. It is positioned to serve as the ideal starting point for exploring the UNESCO World Heritage sites located throughout Al Ain.
