Dubai has inaugurated an innovative environmental initiative named the “Smart Municipality Eye,” a comprehensive aerial monitoring system that utilizes artificial intelligence-equipped drones to oversee the emirate’s vast green areas. This new program represents a significant step in urban management, leveraging advanced technology to maintain the health and sustainability of the city’s natural infrastructure.
The system is designed to monitor an impressive 52 million square meters of parks, gardens, and other green zones in real-time. The AI technology enables the drones to perform detailed assessments of plant health, accurately identify issues related to irrigation systems, and detect early signs of pest infestations. A key feature of the initiative is its predictive capability, allowing authorities to forecast potential risks and address them before they can develop into larger problems.
To support the project’s implementation and future development, the Dubai Municipality has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the company Eanan Al Samma, a specialist in producing remotely piloted aircraft. This partnership is focused on fostering joint innovation in unmanned aerial vehicle technology and AI solutions specifically tailored for municipal and inspection duties. The collaboration includes the exchange of technical expertise, the development of new applications, and the testing of advanced service models. The overarching goal of the Smart Municipality Eye is to enhance the efficiency of city services, promote the rational use of natural resources, and further elevate Dubai’s appeal as a smart and sustainable global city.
